Vernellia R. Randall, Jussie Smollet and Racial Stress, (November 11, 2021)

Black people who work in historically white institutions suffer from micro-aggression, macro aggression, and everything in between. We struggle to get people to recognize the problems we are having. In my 50 years of employment, I have never worked anywhere something didn't happen almost daily. Getting managers to deal with is next to impossible. I once did a "fake suicide" to try to convey the level of stress. It was wrong. It was awful and I am lucky that there was no serious consequence. Don't get me wrong. I think that a False report to the police should be punished under the law and hopefully, it will lead to punishment of all the white people who call in reports on Black people. That said, there is unrelenting racial stress that may have affected, inappropriately, his decision-making. It doesn't help, that getting a therapist to help with dealing with racial stress is next to impossible
